The photocopy from a Stuttgart newspaper of June 19, 1953, is a review of Ferruccio Busoni's, "Doktor Faust, " praising its performance in Dortmund. The postcard of June 26, 1953, is from John J. Becker, American composer of avant-garde music, describing his teaching duties and inquiring how a concert of Varèse's had gone. A brief note from Varèse to Fred Gruenfeld is dated March 6, 1954. The two-page undated typescript by Varèse describes what he is attempting to accomplish in his composition "Deserts." He addresses how the use of visual and sound images will create an emotional reaction.
